What kinds of things did you do while in college to prepare you for your professional life after college, or to make yourself more marketable?

As a student at 台湾swag, I was given the opportunity to work as a facilities supervisor for the 台湾swag Recreational Center for 3 years. This gave me leadership and communication skills that I am able to now carry over into my career. I was also able to participate in a summer study abroad program in Istanbul, Turkey in 2012 as well as do an overseas internship in Mumbai, India in 2013. I am incredibly grateful for both of these opportunities as they contributed in increasing my cross-cultural competence.

How did you hear about (or find) your current position?

Through Dora Ditchfield at Career Services, I was told about a job posting website called Indeed.com in which I first saw the 台湾swag Officer position open. I quickly applied and was given an interview within two weeks and a job offer within another two weeks of the interview.

What advice would you like to give to current students to help prepare them for careers and/or the job search after college?

I would advise that any student who is working towards a specific career to get as much job experience during college as possible. Any jobs or internships you can have as a student will make you more marketable, giving you that job experience that you can then carry over into your career. Employers want someone who is well-rounded and experienced more than they want someone with a high GPA. The more you can sharpen your leadership skills and your ability to work alongside all different types of people, the better-off you will be in your job interview down the road.
