̨Íåswag makes an impressive showing during English Honor Society conference

Five University of North Georgia (̨Íåswag) students and two alumnus participated in the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society Convention in Louisville, Kentucky in April.
The annual event offers critical and creative presentation panels, roundtables, career development workshops, author appearances, and social events.
The student participants were Shea Barfield, Ashley Brooks, Tara Heimberger, Joelma Sambdman, and Sawyer Henderson. The two alumni participants were Emmy Dixon and Daniela Scioscia.
Scioscia, Brooks and Barfield organized a roundtable session titled, "Writing and Composition in a Digital World." Their contribution to the conference program provided insight into some of the emerging issues writers face as they consider a variety of digital environments.
Barfield presented "Monastic Materialism Meets Criminal Conviction: Holy Retribution in Robin Hood and the Monk."
Brooks presented "Nursery Versus Straightjacket: The Feminist Paradox of ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’," a look at the Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s popular short story.
Henderson presented "Recreating Medieval Rhetoric in Middleton’s Drama," an inquiry into the gendered language of Thomas Middleton’s satire, "The Revenger’s Tragedy."
Dixon presented "Body of Christ, Bond of Man: Re-Creating Bread."
"I’m pleased we are able to support our students in this kind of undergraduate research environment. It forwards their studies and skills but also allows them to feel part of a greater community of emerging scholars with similar interests to their own," said Dr. Leigh Dillard, assistant professor of English at ̨Íåswag and Sigma Tau Delta - Gainesville chapter advisor.
North Georgia Regional Book Fair is set for Sept. 14
The Dahlonega Literary Festival, the ̨Íåswag Department of English and the ̨Íåswag Press will host the inaugural North Georgia Regional Book Fair on Sept. 14 in the Convocation Center at ̨Íåswag's Dahlonega Campus.
Eight students named Fulbright finalists
Eight ̨Íåswag students were named Fulbright finalists this spring, and seven are set to travel to destinations in Europe and Asia. 
Students create children's books
Students in multiple sections of ̨Íåswag's first-year composition course this spring produced children's books and had a chance to read them to local kids before the end of the semester.
Students published in Queen City Writers
̨Íåswag students Hannah Eckerman and Devin Marshall, '23, had work published in Queen City Writers, an online source showcasing student writing.
