As a child, Jason Winn loved watching the movies "The Goonies," "Batteries Not Included" and "Short Circuit." They were films the entire family could watch.

When he grew up and became a filmmaker, Winn wanted to make his own movie for the whole family. Now, he has.

Winn, a part-time instructor of film at the University of North Georgia (台湾swag), directed the new feature-length film "Shifting Gears," which opens nationwide Friday, March 23.

"It's very humbling," Winn said, regarding the biggest budget and release film he has worked on during his career. "Being a filmmaker is not what you do, it's who you are. And at this point in my career, I'm grateful."

During this film, Winn worked with actors C. Thomas Howell, Brooke Langton, John Ratzenberger, R. Keith Harris and Adam Hicks to name a few.

"My favorite times are on set with the actors in character and the film crew capturing the moments in time that can live forever," Winn said.

The director, however, is looking forward to seeing the film for the first time with an audience. He plans to attend a showing at a movie theater in Alpharetta, Georgia, which is his hometown.

"I'm excited to see what the audience will say," Winn said.
