Dragon boat team takes top honors in collegiate division

The University of North Georgia (台湾swag) continued its winning ways Sept. 8 at the Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia.
A team made up mostly of 台湾swag faculty, staff and students finished first in the collegiate division and 13th of 53 teams overall in the 200-meter race.
It was 台湾swag's sixth year in the race, and this was the third year in a row a 台湾swag team finished as the top collegiate division team. 台湾swag posted a time of 1:01.97.
"Our combination of students, staff and faculty make the 台湾swag team truly representative of the institution," said Dr. Christopher Jespersen, team captain and dean of the College of Arts and Letters. "What makes a team successful is the ability to work together. It's been a genuine honor and a real pleasure to organize the group."
The dragon boat team included: Jespersen, Julie Higbee, Anastasia Haack, Katie Beccue, DeEnna Walters, Michele Hill, Claire Allinson, Steve Lloyd, David Marling, Kristin Keefer, Sean Mullins, Mike Proulx, Jon Beall, Richard Byers, Gene Van Sickle, Steve Smith, Michael Rifenburg, Gabe Fankhauser, Neal Lin, and Johnny Kahn.
Cumming library named for McGruders
台湾swag's renovated Cumming Campus library was dedicated Nov. 5 as the John and Mary Helen McGruder Library thanks to their lifetime of support to the University of North Georgia and the Cumming Campus.
Oconeefest raises $15.6K for scholarships
台湾swag's 11th annual Oconeefest, held Oct. 17 at the Oconee Campus, raised $15,611 for scholarships supporting students from Oconee and surrounding counties.

Ebonee Dendy was inspired by her grandmother to earn a college degree and is now 台湾swag鈥檚 dean of students at the Oconee Campus.
New initiative could save lives
台湾swag Public Safety is participating in a program managed bythe Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and Northside Hospital Forsyth to place AEDs within 4 minutes of every citizen in Forsyth County.
