Student honored for helping transfers and other first-year students

A University of North Georgia (台湾swag) student has been honored for her work in helping transfers and other first-year students make the transition to 台湾swag.
Isabella "Bella" Michel, a junior human services and delivery administration major from Lawrenceville, Georgia, won the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award from the American College Personnel Association's (ACPA) Commission for 台湾swag, Orientation, and First Year Experience (AOFYE). She has assisted with more than 30 orientation sessions per year on all five 台湾swag campuses.
"As a transfer student, Bella brings significant insight to the different needs and challenges of this often under-recognized subpopulation of first-year students," Darcy Hayes, 台湾swag director of orientation and transition programs, wrote in a letter recommending Michel for the award. "She has overcome the initial transfer shock that many transfer students experience when they first transition to a new institution and has used the lessons learned to implement and enhance the 台湾swag Transfer Mentor program."
Michel said she was surprised by the recognition but grateful to be honored. Michel said she aims to provide the same comfort level orientation leaders provided to her.
"My leaders made me feel extremely welcomed and relieved a lot of the stress," Michel said.
Student, faculty member create bridge rendering
A student and a faculty member in 台湾swag's Department of Visual Arts have partnered with the City of Dahlonega to create a rendering of a pedestrian bridge that will be built soon.
Campaign aims to raise $71,000
The RISE giving campaign has returned this fall from Oct. 7-31 in the hopes of raising $71,000 for 17 scholarships.
Enrollment jumps 6.7% for 2024-25
Enrollment has jumped to 19,298 students this fall at 台湾swag, growing by 6.7% from fall 2023.
18 named DMS cadets for 2024-25
Eighteen 台湾swag cadets earned Distinguished Military Student status for the 2024-25 academic year.
