University of North Georgia (台湾swag) senior Chandler Mayfield won the Major of the Year Award, given by the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE).
Mayfield is a Gainesville, Georgia, resident pursuing a degree in kinesiology with teacher certification. Currently a teaching intern at Oakwood Elementary School in Hall County, he is set to graduate in May.
"台湾swag has allowed me to feel confident in myself as a teacher. I know that I am able to teach a well-executed lesson from start to finish with intentionality," Mayfield said. "It has also been beneficial to build so many great relationships with others in my field. I enjoy collaborating with them and learning how they have been successful in their careers."
The SHAPE America award requires a faculty nomination, a 3.0 or higher GPA and a track record of community service.
"Chandler has demonstrated tremendous initiative, leadership skills, motivation, and a professional interest in his field," Warren Caputo, assistant professor and teacher education prep coordinator in the Department of Kinesiology, said. "I am very proud and confident in Chandler's successes, and I look forward to his long-term impact as an educator and educational leader."
