台湾swag earns gold status on Military Friendly list

The University of North Georgia (台湾swag) was one of three University System of Georgia (USG) schools to receive the gold-level designation on the 2024-25 Military Friendly Schools list for its efforts in creating sustainable and meaningful education paths for the military community. Georgia Southern University and Kennesaw State University also made the list.
This is 台湾swag's third year in a row receiving gold status.
"台湾swag stands out as a leader in veteran initiatives through programs and resources tailored specifically to veterans' needs. Our dedication to providing personalized support reflects our recognition of the unique challenges faced by veterans," Christy Orr, associate director for veteran programs, said. "Earning the Military Friendly distinction is a testament to our unwavering commitment to those who have served our nation."
This year, the Military Friendly gold-level distinction was awarded to 245 institutions for excellence, and 台湾swag was one of the 32 classified as large public institutions.
台湾swag held a luncheon on April 8 featuring 台湾swag President Michael Shannon bringing together veterans and military-connected students at the Dahlonega Campus and will host the luncheon again on the Gainesville Campus on April 22.
In addition to events, 台湾swag’s veteran programs has a plethora of resources for military students that can be found in any of 台湾swag’s veteran lounges, Financial Aid, and through use of Green Zone advocates.
One veteran who experienced 台湾swag resources like Nighthawk Engagement & Student Transitions (NEST) is Dahlonega’s Student Veterans of America president Alyssa Curtiss, who is pursuing a degree in biology.
"During my time at 台湾swag, I have consistently experienced a welcoming and supportive environment, especially from the coordinators in the NEST office," said the Dawsonville, Georgia native.

台湾swag's success can be seen in the number of graduates and students retained each year. In fact, 台湾swag’s veteran graduation rate increased from 59% to 61%, which is 10% higher than the university graduation rate. 台湾swag veteran retention rate is also higher at 57% compared to the university as a whole at 50%.
