Student Success at GPSA 2024

The Georgia Political Science Association (GPSA), the professional association for political science practitioners and educators in Georgia provides a platform for students to showcase their research, connect with peers, and learn from professionals in the field. Under the guidance of Associate Department Head Dr. Raluca Viman-Miller, PSIA faculty members encourage students to engage with GPSA and foster a supportive environment for academic growth and professional development.

Dr. Viman-Miller's Central and Eastern European Politics class was particularly active this past fall, with two students— Jessica Case, IA/Europe ‘24 and Allison Freligh, IA/Europe ’25 - participating in the Nov 2024 GPSA annual conference. Jessica, in particular, had a remarkable experience: her research paper was accepted into the highly competitive Pajari Panel, which showcases excellence in undergraduate research. Jessica’s research presentation, based on work done during her class, was not only accepted but also earned her the distinction of being named runner-up in the panel.

Reflecting on her experience, Jessica shares:

“GPSA was such a great experience to have as an undergraduate student, especially before graduating. It offered me an opportunity to listen to current research from political scientists all across Georgia and learn how these studies are advancing the field. I highly recommend students attend these conferences. The vast amount of research presented, along with the opportunities available, makes it an invaluable experience.”

Dr. Viman-Miller is justifiably proud of both Allison’s and Jessica's success at GPSA as it “highlights the importance of student engagement in research and the potential for academic growth that comes from participating in professional conferences. GPSA offers students like Jessica and Allison the chance to contribute to the evolving field of political science while building connections that can help shape their future careers.”
