GTA celebrates 40 years
[music plays]
The miracle occurred in 1979 and that's where all the planets aligned. You had
two universities that at that moment needed each other to support what would
become a nationally acclaimed theater program.
Probably our greatest technical achievement was Metamorphosis where in
this theater we created an 8,000 gallon pool of water and told those rich
stories of the Greeks through the use of this pool.
By studying here, you can actually create a life in the theater, a career in the
theater, as so many of our graduates are doing. What's unique about the
Gainesville Theatre Alliance is, students are supported at these universities the
way a lot of colleges and universities support their athletes and that is rare.
Because of the support we receive from the universities and the community, we're
able to invite in that fourth player, which is the professional guest artist,
which means that a student coming into our program by the time they graduate in
four years now know this network of about 30 to 40 professional directors,
designers, choreographers, who they've been working with over the last four
years who are then going to be able to help them take that next step into the
profession.
