During each semester of enrollment, all students with Learning Support requirements, including those attending part-time, must first register for all required Learning Support courses before being allowed to register for other courses.
In the event that a required Learning Support course is not offered on their home campus, a student may enroll in a course for degree credit if the student has met the course prerequisites, subject to recommendation by the Director or Assistant Director of Learning Support. The required Learning Support course will be deferred to the next semester of enrollment.
Students enrolled in Learning Support courses along with credit courses may withdraw or be withdrawn from said Learning Support courses and remain in their credit courses unless enrollment in the Learning Support course is considered a condition for remaining in the college-level course. For example, any student enrolled in a Co-Requisite LS math, like MATH 0999 and MATH 1111, may not withdraw or be withdrawn from one and not the other.
The University System of Georgia (USG) requires that Area A of core curriculum be completed by the time students complete 30 hours of credit. By USG policy, a student who has accumulated thirty (30) semester hours of academic credit and has not completed all Learning Support requirements may have his/her course schedule restricted to just LS coursework until all LS requirements are met.
Students who are dropped from their Learning Support course for non-attendance, who withdraw themselves, or who are administratively withdrawn may have holds placed on their accounts until all Learning Support requirements have been satisfied. As well, the Learning Support department may restrict, where warranted, the hours and courses a student takes in subsequent semesters until all Learning Support requirements have been satisfied.
Student transfers college level courses in the following area(s)
English: ENGL 1101 or ENGL 1102 with a grade of C or higher.
Math: Area A math credit with a grade of D or higher.
Student meets the following minimums:
LS English: Required High School Curriculum GPA of at least 2.7, NSAT Evidenced-Based Reading/Writing (NSATEBRW) of at least 530, ACT Reading of at least 20 or ACT English of 20 and completion of College Preparatory Curriculum English courses in high school.
LS Math: Required High School Curriculum GPA of at least 3.2, NSAT Math of at least 510, or ACT Math of at least 20 and completion of a minimum of Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry.
Student has placement index scores that exempt Learning Support:
For Learning Support English, 台湾swag requires an English Placement Index (EPI) of 4280 or higher.
For Learning Support Math, 台湾swag requires a Math Placement Index (MPI) of 1300 or higher.
Please refer to this for an explanation of how EPI and MPI are calculated.
Student has Accuplacer scores that exempt Learning Support:
LS English: Accuplacer Reading of 243 or higher and Accuplacer WritePlacer of at least 4
LS Math: Accuplacer Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QRAS) of at least 266
Students who complete Learning Support English or Math courses at another regionally accredited institution are exempt from that/those area(s) at 台湾swag. Students who begin Learning Support courses but do not complete them will be evaluated for Learning Support placement based on 台湾swag policies
Any students who leave 台湾swag for three consecutive semesters without having satisfied their Learning Support requirements will, upon application for readmission, be required to take the Accuplacer placement test in any unsatisfied Learning Support area to determine whether or not they will have Learning Support requirements.
Students who transfer in fewer than 30 hours of college credit are subject to all the requirements of entering freshmen. Students who transfer in 30 or more hours of college credit are exempt from CPC/RHSC requirements, but they are subject to Accuplacer testing and placement in Learning Support if they have not completed an Area A English and/or an Area A Math at a regionally accredited institution. Although 台湾swag currently does not allow MATH 1401, Elementary Statistics, in Area A, transfer credit for MATH 1401 or its equivalent will suffice for exempting Math placement testing.
Students with unsatisfied Learning Support requirements are not allowed transient permission to take courses at other institutions nor does the institution accept transient students with unsatisfied Learning Support requirements.
All standardized tests (SAT, ACT) must be completed prior to enrollment. Students must submit all test scores and transfer credit by the midpoint of their first semester of enrollment for consideration of satisfying Learning Support requirements.
By 台湾swag Course Repeats policy, students are permitted up to three attempts in the Co-Requisite English and Mathematics level of Learning Support, inclusive of withdrawals. Students should note, however, that the grade earned in an unsuccessful attempt in Co-Requisite English or Math will be calculated into their institutional GPA. Grades earned in the Support course (ENGL 0999, MATH 0997, MATH 0989, MATH 0999) do not get calculated into their institutional GPA.
All Learning Support requirements must be satisfied by the time a student has earned 30 hours of college-level credit. Failure to do so will result in course-load restrictions until all Learning Support requirements have been satisfied.
Students with remaining Learning Support requirements who have been out of school for three or more semesters must reapply to the university and must take the placement test in any area of Learning Support still not satisfied.
To complete (satisfy) a Learning Support course, students must meet these criteria unless otherwise specified on a departmental syllabus.
LS English
Learning Support English is satisfied by a student earning a grade of C or higher in ENGL 1101 while co-enrolled in ENGL 0999 and ENGL 1101.
LS Math
Learning Support Math is satisfied by a student earning a grade of D or higher in MATH 1001, MATH 1101, or MATH 1111 while co-enrolled in the appropriate Co-Requisite LS Math course (MATH 0997, MATH 0998 or MATH 0999, respectively). NOTE: A grade of C or higher is the pre-requisite for taking the subsequent math required in core.
According to Board of Regents’ policy, students enrolled in both Learning Support courses and credit courses may withdraw from said Learning Support courses and remain in their credit courses unless the Learning Support course is considered a co-requirement for remaining in the college-level course. For example, any student enrolled in a Co-Requisite LS math, like MATH 0999 and MATH 1111, may not withdraw or be withdrawn from one and not the other.
Students with documented learning disabilities enrolled in Learning Support courses are required to fulfill all stated requirements before exiting. These students should be provided with appropriate course accommodations.
Students with learning disabilities may petition through the institution to the Regents’ Center for Learning Disorders for a maximum of two additional semesters of Learning Support work. The documentation submitted by such students must be consistent with the definition and criteria for evaluation provided in of the University System of Georgia’s Academic & Student Affairs Handbook. Documentation must be sent to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at least one semester in advance of the time the accommodation is needed. The Committee may request additional information in its consideration of the institution's recommendation for additional semesters.
